I will be a health communication mentor and I work strongly with the university's premed program. I sometimes do trainings prepping the students for their med institution interviews and lots of my students have been efficiently admitted to med institution. I have found this book, along with  Multiple Mini Interview (MMI): Winning Strategies from Tickets Faculty   to be the 2 essential books of prepping for med school. The best thing you can do for yourself is buying these 2 books, reading them carefully, and practicing over and over again. Begin with the general one, and spend some serious time on it. Avoid skip the 'why do you want to be a doctor' and 'what is professionalism' sections, they are gold! Then if you are informed that you will have an MMI, just read the other one. In case you won't have an MMI, We would still consider browsing through it because it gives you interesting ethical questions to think on, which should get your medical communication juices flowing and ready for an interview!
Because someone that helps train prospective med school students, We want to emphasize that whatever book you buy, you need to practice. Practice out loud and hopefully to another individual that is listening to you and providing feedback., I HIGHLY recommend this book for all medical school applicants. It is well researched and extremely thorough. I found it to be much more helpful than any of the other books or websites that I studied in preparation for my interviews. The authors obviously put a lot of work in to the book-I was surprised at the depth and breadth of the author's research. The authors almost continuously cite medical institution admissions committees as their source of information. Typically the Medical School Interview covers everything you need to do after being asked to interview, from job interview preparation to interview day and beyond. It includes common interview questions and also discusses the various types of interview formats. Many importantly, there is an emphasis on making your answers unique; there are a lot of highly qualified candidates out there, so making your solutions distinct and memorable is crucial.

The book serves as a companion to several other medical school preparation services provided by the authors. When i read the book, I decided to register for a mock job interview session with one of the authors, Dr. Desai. Dr. Desai came to the session much more prepared than I expected, he previously researched the colleges I was preparing to job interview at and had researched my application material. We felt much more confident starting my interviews after my prep session with Doctor Desai.

In brief, definitely choose the book before you get started interviewing for medical schools. And, seriously consider utilizing the other services and books the authors offer. More information about the book, the authors, and other services can be found http://www.thesuccessfulmatch.com/

**UPDATE**
I was just accepted to a Top 5 medical school program! We think that I had been qualified for the medical schools We interviewed at, but not fully prepared to express my qualifications. Studying Typically the Medical School Interview and utilizing the coaching services offered helped me best present my qualifications to the admissions committee, with amazing results I might add: ). Considering the results, this might function as the best 20 bucks I possess ever spent. BUY THE BOOK, This book and Dr. Desai gave me personally the confidence and clarity I needed going into my medical school job interview. I had developed 2 MMI and one classical style job interview. I can almost honestly say that I would not have access to gotten in without the advice. Plain and simple the guy is aware what he is discussing about from years of experience one being on an admissions committee, two speaking personally with other admissions committee members at numerous schools and getting the inside scoop on what they are looking for and what makes them tick, and 3 rd speaking and working together with soo many other candidates just like you, polishing their interview styles and seeing what works and what does not first hand. Plain and simple it would be unwise to go into the interview without tapping into this book or contacting Dr. Desai himself. Thank you Dr. Desai., This book is a MUST read before any traditional interview. I simply finished a couple of interviews - I can say definitively that the advice in this book transformed the way in which We present myself. I discovered how to frame my responses to set myself apart from the numerous other interviewees under thing to consider (after all, we are much more alike than we are different! ). The book presents very helpful tips on the full scope of the job interview - things to wear, mannerisms, how to handle small talk, how to present yourself and your activities, common pitfalls to avoid, and much more. It also shares the perspectives of admissions faculty, which trained me to imagine how the interviewer would react to my answers. We highly recommend this publication!, I really could not recommend Doctor. Desai's books or guidance services more. As an applicant I purchased this book, his MMI publication, and also enlisted him for individualized mock job interview training. He has recently been exceptional. As a nontraditional student who does not come from children of healthcare providers, he provided crucial, individualized feedback towards my success on job interview day. That said, I think he would be able to guide any type of consumer towards their personal goals. I am happy to say, I am now a MSI. I will continue to look to Doctor Desai's books and guidance on my journey through medical school and towards residency. The application process is crazy, Dr. Desai's books and advising bring peace of mind to the madness.
