Superb book. Everything we’ve attempted has been delicious. There’s a range of beautifully simple to very complicated recipes. They’re all getaway or party special. Totally recommend!

1) Peach Salted peanuts Cake – p 343. Beautiful, filled with cashew flavor, and not overly sweet. I brought this to book club and everyone adored it. And it’s easy!
2) Crispy Shrimp ~ p 90. This is fantastic fried shrimp. I actually made it once just as instructed, and then a second time I bending the pepperoncini and used brew instead of the club soda to watch a little soccer. They disappeared both ways.
3) Bruschetta with Prosciutto and Figs – l 61. Pretty, yummy, and fast to pull collectively.
4) Other with Roasted Garlic Impasto – p 211. Tasty and fabulously fragrant! Roasting garlic, anchovies, walnuts, mozzarella cheese, herbs, and olive essential oil.
5-6) Wedding party Soup – p 138. Turkey and pork meatballs, with spinach, carrots, and orzo in a short rib, chicken, and bone stock with a grating of grana padana (hard grating cheese) and a drizzle of olive essential oil to finish. This soup is amazing. You need to get your biggest stock pot or Dutch oven to fit 6 pounds of meat and bones, a ton of veggies, and 6 quarts of water. She tells you that you can do some steps ahead of time, but it is only 3 ½ hours commence to finish, and lots of of that is just simmering time. This was the only recipe where I needed to make a replacement. I didn’t have veal bones, nor did my grocer, so I used beef bones.
7-9) Pear and Pecorino Ravioli with Cacio electronic Pepe Sauce – l 232. This really is wonderful ravioli! The pear is a background flavor with the pecorino front and centre. I make little records to myself before starting recipes. I thought I would include them in situation my sketches of the ravioli plan of action could be of help to anyone else.
10) Eggplant Parmigiana Stacks – p one hundred sixty five. I’m admirer. These are easier, lighter, and more beautiful than traditional eggplant Parmigiana. There’s no egg in the dredging step.
11) Carrot and Orange Salad – l 106. Speedy, sunshiny part. I love the contrast of the sweet pumpkin and oranges against the salty olives.
12) Salad of Warm Greens with Bacon and Mushrooms – p 107. Quick crowd pleaser.
13) Maremma Type Steak – p 309. I really like the family-style presentation of the one giant steak. I was really surprised by how much the salty rosemary oil flavour permeated the meat. The particular kids loved it!

* I actually received a galley backup to explore and share my thoughts. I adored it, and acquired a completed copy., I own all, yes, all of Lidia's books-including the Nona (grandmother) series. They are my go to cookbooks for Italian-American. I have made so many dishes and enjoyed them.
If you are able to visit one of her resturants-GO. It will be a memorable experience-incredible food and a very well trained employees.
Lidia provides all excellent value with so a large number of recipes and excellent advice in this book.
YET.......
I think that.....
Entertaining just a few or a large group require make ahead dishes...... truthfully, I would not fry anything when entertaining.... it is very last minute. To s include any apart from a few in a book about entertaining just does not work for me, and I feel that nobody should try to do any more than one last second dish.
I use already so many quality recipes that I will try....... and I believe that they will be successful.
One thing that I really love about Lidia's cookbooks and PBS show is that she always tells you to use what you have and what you, your family and your visitors like. We would LOVE to see more gluten free, vegetarian and vegan dishes.
Therefore , four stars.... too much needs to be prepared ahead of time...... but buy it-you will be pleased., I have all of Lidia's books and Now i'm very happy with them all. This edition just came at my home today. I haven't even got time to look at it yet, but Now i'm sure I will be a satisfied customer. Now i'm of Italian descent and I love her reports as them remind me of my " little" Italian Grandmother. She and my grand daddy came to this country at the turn of the last century.
